This F-150 Doesn't Come with an Engine as Standard

The American best selling heritage Pickup truck, Ford F-150 now has arrived at the electric venture.

Instead of a vigorously powerful V8 engine, now F150 Lightning has electric motors in its front and rear giving it supercar performance of 0-60 in 4.5s.

The design of the Lightning is the same as the current F150 with some electrocuted details. Full-width front lights have a similar shape to the current F150 and more stylish tail lamps are the most significant differences in the electric F150.

The grille of the F150 has been converted to a stylized panel with mesh latticework underneath a glossy surface.

Performance

563hp, 775 pound-feet of torque.

Unlike previous F150s, all Lightning F-150s will be all-wheel drive, independent rear suspension as firstly on an F150.

Batteries will be in metal exoskeleton houses mounted within the frame rails giving F150 a low centre gravity. Ford will also introduce tri- or quad-motor powertrains in the future.

The Lightning is also targeted for a maximum towing capacity of 10,000 lbs & a towing capacity of 2,000 lbs.

The standard range battery has a range of 230 miles while the extended range battery comes with a range of 300 miles.

Charging

The charging outlet appears on the front fender. The Extended Range battery comes with an 80amp Ford Charging Station pro which allows a peak charging power of 19.2 kW.

The standard 32amp Ford mobile charger will allow charge from the traditional 120-240V outlet.

Like the Mustang Mach-E, the Lightning uses the Ford charging network combining with the FordPass mobile application which allows the driver to precondition the battery or schedule charging for off-peak times, and a real-time payload monitor within the infotainment system or phone app helps optimize the charging route based on vehicle load, trailer weight, weather conditions, terrain, and other variables.

Technology

Most excitingly the F150 Lightning comes with Ford Intelligent Power Backup which can output power up to 9.6kW of peak energy for up to three days. Also, this power transfer can be triggered both manually or automatically.

The feature requires a home equipped with an AC-DC inverter and the optional Charge Station Pro home charger

The truck also has 11 power outlets which are ten 9.6kW 120V and one 240V outlet.#

Lariat and Platinum trims will receive a 15.5-inch touchscreen and Sync 4A infotainment as the Mustang Mach-E, which uses a flat user interface. Recently used apps appear along the bottom of the screen, making it easier to swap between frequently used features.

Every Lightning will also come with an all-digital instrument cluster on every trim, even base and commercial vehicles.

The FordPass app will give access to set A/C, opening and closing the frunk, charging commands and route planners.

The F-150 Lightning will also get a modem that can provide in-car Wi-Fi as well as perform over-the-air software updates to keep the infotainment and vehicle systems up to date.

Ford will also offer the Blue Cruise hands-free driving feature combined with a driver-facing camera and other radar technologies, on specific driving zones of North American roads.

Also comes with a bunch of other features like the phone as a key technology, Pro trailer hitch assist, Onboard scales, smart hitch, Pro trailer pickup assist, Trailer Reverse Guidance.

The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning will start at just $39,974 in the base SR version. The fully loaded Lightning ER Platinum version will cost about $90,000.
